It's Monday: What are you reading? is a weekly meme from Book Journey.
I just finished reading two very different books. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and A Spy in the House by Y.S. Lee. Yes, I know, everyone but me has read The Hunger Games, and I'm a teen librarian. I should be ashamed of myself. But I've read it and I even managed to review it. You can find full reviews for both of these books in the posts below.
I'm currently reading (and have been for a while) Intertwined by Gena Showalter. I've been working on this title for a month or so, putting it down to read other books, then picking it back up again. I'll finish it eventually!
On my to-read list are The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson and Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry. Though I really think I need something light and happy after reading The Hunger Games...
Rot and ruin is also on my list! But it has to wait until after I re-read the HG series! I just wanted to watch the movie and THEN re-read so I don't hate on the movie...which was AWESOME by the way :D Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteMy fellow librarian-friend raves about Rot & Ruin, just as she raved about HG, so I'm sure it'll be awesome!
DeleteI'm glad you liked The Hunger Games in spite of the genre.
ReplyDeleteI am adding A Spy in the House to my TBR based on your review.
It's always fun to find new books. Thanks. :-)
Have a great week.
I hope you enjoy Spy as much as I did. I listened to the audio book, and it was really great!
DeleteI did like the whole Hunger Games trilogy. I thought the movie was well done too. I had The Agency: A Spy in the House on my TBR stack for a while but donated it to my high school media center because I didn't think I would ever get to it.
ReplyDeleteThe way you feel about dystopias is the way I feel about zombies. I just read the description for Rot & Ruin and am not convinced that it would work for me. I do have The Name of the Star and all the other YA Edgar nominees on my TBR mountain but haven't started them yet.
Happy reading!
I've never read a zombie book (outside of the occasional zombie in a paranormal novel), but I have a feeling I may feel the same way, too. Still, I need to read a lot of different things to recommend them to my teens! The things I do for my job ;)
DeleteWell, I have to say yay for the Hunger Games :) Loved it and still raving about it ;)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Rachel, you are not the only one to just get to The Hunger Games - I only read it last week. I read your review and I completely agree with everything you said, except that I actually don't mind reading dystopian stories. I am really keen to get started on Catching Fire now! Happy reading for the rest of the week :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Hunger Games yet, but I just bought it for my mum for her birthday, so she'll pass it on soon, lol! xx
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed The Hunger Games when I read it last year, but dystopian is one of my favorite genres. I am looking forward to getting a hold of The Name of the Star this month. The author is hilarious on Twitter. Wonder if some of that carries over, despite the subject.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'll have to find her on Twitter. I love books with a sense of humor; I wasn't expecting it with Star, but now I'm hoping that it is funny!
DeleteI still haven't read The Hunger Games so your not the last one!
ReplyDeleteI've read the Hunger Games but not the other two yet. I have them but they're still waiting their turn on my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite read this week was Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. Please come see what else I'm reading.
I love Riordan's Kane series; I really need to get around to his other stuff. I love the mix of fantasy, adventure, and humor!
DeleteI'm another late Hunger Games reader. I read it a few months ago. Haven't read the rest yet though. Just tonight, they announced on the news that Hunger Games series has been challenged to be removed from school libraries. I hate censorship - hope the challengers lose that challenge.
ReplyDeleteMy monday post is up at http://mardel-rabidreader.blogspot.com/2012/04/monday-monday-monday.html
Seriously? Ugh - that sucks. Hunger Games, no matter what I think of Dystopians, does have good lessons.
DeleteOoo I'll look out for your review of Intertwined when you finish it!
ReplyDeleteNew follower :-)

Welcome!
DeleteAnd that review will happen...someday ;)
I think The Name of the Star sounds good...hope you have a great week, and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHere's MY MONDAY MEMES POST
You, too! Thanks!
DeleteI read Hunger Games and didn't care for it...all the teens in my library loved it but...bleh. Don't know, it just didn't connect for me.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading this week :)
It's Monday! What Are You Reading @ the Brunette Librarian's Blog
I haven't read The Hunger Games yet, and I'm not sure I am going to. It just doesn't seem to call to me. I do have all three books - my husband wanted to read them, so I got them for him. Maybe I'll pick up the first one.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good reading week!
